RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has been drafted into Brazil's squad for the country's 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela, Colombia and Uruguay, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old replaces Real Madrid's Casemiro who was ruled out of the matches because of a dental infection caused by a wisdom tooth.
"We received the medical exams showing the infection... and a recommendation of complete rest without the possibility of training in the next five days," Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said in a statement published on the CBF's official website.
Luiz earned the most recent of his eight Brazil caps in the team's Copa America semifinal victory over Peru on July 5.
The five-time World Cup winners will play Venezuela in Caracas on Thursday, Colombia in Barranquilla on Sunday and Uruguay in Manaus on October 14.
Tite's men lead the 10-team South American qualifying group with eight wins from as many matches. Enditem
