SOFIA, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Top seed Jannik Sinner of Italy retained his title of the ATP 250 Sofia Open after beating second seed Gael Monfils of France 6-3, 6-4 in the final here on Sunday.
It was Sinner's third ATP title this season and the fourth of his career.
On his road to glory, the 20-year-old beat Egor Gerasimov of Belarus, Australia's James Duckworth, and fifth seed Filip Krajinovic of Serbia.
"Coming back here and playing a great tournament once again for me is very, very special feeling," Sinner said at the post-match press conference.
"I think today I played very well the whole match," Sinner said.
"I am very happy about my performance and about my tournament here," he said.
"It was very physical match, we had long rallies. When I had the chance, I took it," he added.
Roberto Bautista Agut won the first edition of the tournament in Sofia in 2016, followed by home favorite Grigor Dimitrov in 2017, Mirza Basic in 2018, and Daniil Medvedev in 2019. Enditem
