RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Manchester United loanee Andreas Pereira scored his second goal in five league games as defending champions Flamengo rose to third in Brazil's Serie A standings with a 3-0 home win over Athletico Paranaense on Sunday.
Everton Ribeiro put Flamengo ahead in the fifth minute by bundling home from close range after Aderbar Santos kept out a long-range Pereira effort with a diving save that rebounded favorably for the former Cruzeiro midfielder.
Bruno Henrique made it 2-0 five minutes later, heading in at the far post after Gabriel Barbosa's cross.
Flamengo extended their lead on the stroke of half-time when Pereira concluded a perfect counterattacking move by running onto Giorgian de Arrascaeta's pass and slotting a first-time effort past Santos.
The result at the Maracana stadium leaves Flamengo third in the 20-team standings with 38 points from 20 matches, 11 points behind leaders Atletico Mineiro but with two games in hand. Paranaense are ninth, eight points further back.
