说到做美食，大家脑子肯定都会先蹦出两个词：cook和cooker。但这两个词大家都区分清楚了吗?
cook ：someone who prepares food 厨师
eg: He’s a wonderful cook.
他是位很出色的厨师。
ooker ：a large box-shaped device that is used to cook and heat food 厨灶，炉具
eg: a gas/electric cooker
煤气灶/电灶
而在疫情严重，人人宅家，全民皆厨子的时候，每个人都成了大厨，这时候我们可以用home cook(家庭厨师) or amateur chef (业余主厨)来称呼自己。
chef ：a skilled and trained cook who works in a hotel or restaurant, especially the most important cook (酒店或餐馆的)厨师
eg: He is one of the top chefs in Britain.
他是英国的顶级厨师之一。
终于搞清楚cook, cooker和chef 的区别，那就进入我们今天要分享的“main course”吧。
朋友圈晒的基本都是自己做的拿手主菜，人们最擅长做的那道菜称作：
signature dish: a signature dish is a recipe that identifies an individual chef 招牌菜
eg: What’s your signature dish?
你的招牌菜是什么?
西方国家中，一顿正式的晚餐一般是 a three-course meal，这包括了：
✨appetizer: a small amount of food eaten before a meal (餐前的)开胃小吃
eg: At 6.30 everyone gathered for drinks and appetizers in the lounge.
6点30分，大家聚在休息室中喝饮料，吃小吃。
✨main course: the largest or most important part of a meal in which there are different parts served separately 主菜
eg: I had salmon for my main course.
我主菜吃了鲑鱼。
✨dessert: sweet food eaten at the end of a meal 甜食，甜点
eg: For dessert there’s apple pie or fruit.
甜食有苹果馅饼和水果可供选择。
像这类 “a three-course meal” 西方文化现象在我们的新概念班中也会经常出现。
